My partner and I are heading to Paris next month and we want to escape the city for just one day to see something a bit different. We are relying entirely on public transit since we won't have a car. Which destinations are realistic to visit, tour, and return from in a single day without feeling completely rushed? Recommendations for manageable routes and crowd favorites would be greatly appreciated!

Versailles is the classic choice and takes less than an hour on the RER C train from central Paris. Highly manageable and totally doable without feeling rushed!

If you want gorgeous gardens and art history, take the train to Giverny to see Monet's house and gardens. It is a stunning day trip that doesn't require a car at all.

Reims is only about 45 minutes from Paris via the TGV high-speed train. You can tour champagne cellars and see the incredible cathedral, then be back in Paris for dinner.

Chartres is another fantastic option about an hour away by train. The medieval town and the famous cathedral make for a wonderfully relaxed day trip.

Fontainebleau is super easy to reach by train and bus, and the chateau is much less crowded than Versailles while still being breathtakingly grand.

Strasbourg is a bit further—about 1 hour and 45 minutes on the TGV—but it feels like stepping into a fairytale and is completely doable as a single-day trip.

Auvers-sur-Oise is where Van Gogh spent his final days. It's easily reachable by regional train and makes for a very peaceful, culturally rich afternoon away from the city.

Honestly, skipping the stress of driving is the best decision you can make. The train network in France is so efficient for quick getaways.

Make sure to book your TGV tickets in advance if you decide to go somewhere like Reims or Tours, as prices go up closer to the departure date!
