Which is better for a holiday: Spain or Italy?

I am currently planning my annual summer vacation and I'm torn between visiting Spain or Italy this year. Both destinations seem to offer incredible food, rich history, and stunning beaches, making it really hard to choose just one. For those of you who have traveled to both countries, which one would you recommend for a 10-day trip focusing on culture and relaxation?

For a 10-day trip focusing on culture and relaxation, I would definitely lean towards Italy. The mix of art, history, and incredible coastal towns is hard to beat.

Spain is amazing, especially if you want a great balance of beach time and vibrant nightlife. Before you book, check out Best European cities for budget-friendly beer and vibrant nightlife? for some inspiration.

I've been to both multiple times, and Italy wins for pure historical depth, but Spain is much more relaxed and affordable in terms of dining out.

Ten days is a bit short for either country if you want to see everything, so pick one region—like Andalusia in Spain or Tuscany in Italy—and stick to it.

Italy's beaches are stunning, but Spain's Costa Brava or the Balearic islands offer some of the best relaxation spots in Europe during the summer months.

Both are incredible choices, but Italy feels a bit more romantic and culturally dense for a first-time visitor wanting a mix of museums and lazy beach afternoons.

Spain gets my vote! The food culture, especially tapas hopping in Seville or Barcelona, adds such a fun, relaxed vibe to an evening after a day of sightseeing.
