Hey everyone, I'm planning my vacation for later this year and I'm totally tired of the usual overcrowded tourist hotspots like Santorini or Ibiza. I'm looking for some hidden gems in Europe that are still relatively untouched and peaceful, but still offer great local food and nice beaches. What are the best European islands you have never heard of that I should definitely check out?

You should definitely look into Folegandros in Greece! It feels worlds away from Santorini with zero mega-resorts, but the local tavernas serve the most incredible traditional cheese pie. If you are planning a broader trip, you might also find some great advice on budget Greek island routes to help you map it all out.

Check out Procida in Italy. It's often overshadowed by Capri and Ischia, but it's a colorful, sleepy little island with amazing seafood and hardly any international tourists.

Last year I went to El Hierro in the Canary Islands and it completely blew my mind. It's volcanic, incredibly peaceful, protected as a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and has stunning natural tidal pools.

If you want absolute tranquility, try La Graciosa just north of Lanzarote. There are literally no paved roads on the island, just sandy tracks, incredible empty beaches, and amazing grilled fish at the local port.

Mljet in Croatia is another fantastic option. A huge chunk of the island is a national park, covered in thick pine forests and saltwater lakes. It's so much quieter than Hvar.

Have you considered the Azores, specifically São Jorge? While some of the main islands are getting busier, São Jorge is full of dramatic cliffs, hidden fajãs, and local cheese that is out of this world.

Check out Hiiumaa in Estonia. It is a gorgeous, forested Baltic island with empty beaches, historic lighthouses, and a very slow, relaxing pace of life. Perfect for escaping the crowds.

If you love hidden gems, you should also look into some of the stunning Mediterranean coastal towns that offer a similar peaceful vibe without the massive tourist traps.
