Best European cities for a weekend getaway

My partner and I are looking to plan a quick 3-day trip somewhere in Europe next month. We want a destination that has great food, is easy to navigate without a car, and isn't too overwhelmingly crowded. Which cities would you recommend for a short weekend break that offer the best mix of culture and relaxation?

I would definitely recommend Porto! It is super walkable, has incredible food, and feels much more relaxed than Lisbon while still offering plenty of culture.

Check out Ljubljana in Slovenia. It's green, compact, extremely easy to get around on foot, and the culinary scene is fantastic without the massive crowds of other capitals.

Bologna is an absolute dream for a 3-day weekend. The food is out of this world, the historic center is completely walkable, and it's far less touristy than Rome or Florence.

Seville is wonderful for a short trip. The tapas culture is vibrant, the city is very flat and easy to explore, and the vibe is so laid-back.

Valetta in Malta is a hidden gem for a weekend. Incredible history, great seafood, and you can easily walk everywhere in a couple of days.

San Sebastian is hard to beat if food is your main priority. It's compact, beautiful, and the pintxos bars are incredible.

Lyon is often overlooked for Paris, but it's the gastronomic capital of France and so much more relaxed and manageable for a 3-day break.

Ghent in Belgium is gorgeous. It has all the charm of Bruges but with a much better local food scene and way fewer tourists.

Bratislava is super close to Vienna and makes for a very chill, inexpensive weekend with amazing local wine and great walking paths.

Porto was our favorite weekend trip last year. Incredible views, amazing wine, and very easy to navigate using the metro and walking.

Verona is romantic, packed with history, has amazing risotto, and you can walk across the entire center in 20 minutes.
